Ten years ago, longtime MLB analyst Harold Reynolds committed the ultimate error as an ESPN employee. He showed a coworker affection.
ESPN has a zero tolerance policy for any contact perceived as inappropriate, even it’s just awkward. Reynolds was dismissed from the network rather abruptly on July 24, 2006, without a clear explanation or reason.
The conventional wisdom is that he hugged a coworker without her desire, following a pattern of allegedly uncomfortable instances. But the whole ordeal turned out a positive for the former baseball player.
He was hired by MLB Network on its first day of operation, January 1, 2009, and has had a fantastic run going on 8 years. Reynolds also reached a seven figure settlement for wrongful termination with ESPN.
